New York metal sculptor Josh Hadar has created a solar electric trike that's got some kick to it. According to the artist, "The first test ride was a virtual wheelie-fest that left its rider sprawled on the ground." Four 12-volt lead-acid batteries power the 15 horsepower Mars Electric motor which tops out at 45 miles per hour. The batteries are charged by six 125 watt solar panels mounted on the roof of Hadar's studio. A single charge gives the E-Trike a 30-mile range, but Hadar thinks that using a lithium nano-phosphate battery pack could double that distance.

Also quite impressive is that the bike was built completely off the grid. Hadar shaped the carbon steel tubing used in this functional work of art by hand. Additionally, all electric tools used in production were powered with solar energy from the studio's solar rooftop array. The challenge of creating the trike using only sustainable energy seems a natural path for Hadar, whose early works used reclaimed building materials and discarded bicycles found in the streets of New York. See more of the artist's work at his website.

What is art? - Click above for high-res image gallery

In 1948, American-born artist Man Ray wrote, "There is no progress in art, any more than there is progress in making love. There are simply different ways of doing it." This is nearly 30 years after he glued some spikes to the bottom of an iron and called it art. And you know what? We couldn't agree more. Meet Jeremy Dean. He's a New York-based artist that began reading about "Hoover carts" during the recent economic bad times. Turns out that Hoover carts were broken down old cars that horses used to lug around during the Great Depression.

With that in mind, Mr. Dean decided to turn a "perfectly good" Hummer H2 that he purchased for $15,000 into a horse drawn cart. We'll let the artist explain the why:

At this time of record financial gains, the auto industry began producing ever extravagant cars and these huge American gas guzzlers became a status symbol in society leading to increased demand for oil and fuel prices soared. So with our very American idea of Manifest Destiny, we meddle in any country that has oil and send our men and women into harms way so that we can continue consuming almost 80% of the worlds resources. But how long can that last?

My own satirical prediction of the future: Unless we come up with alternative fuel sources and rethink our reliance on a hyperinflated consumer based economy, we may be left with no other options than to hook our cars up to a horse. As a symbol of this I [will] take either a Cadillac Escalade or HUMMER H2, which have become monuments to America's consumption, greed and arrogance, and convert it to a horse cart. The cart will maintain all its former glitz and glamour: chrome rims, GPS, working sound system, DVD player, and TV screens. But [it] will be pulled by a horse.

Hey man, horses need jobs, too. As for Jeremy Dean, he has apparently sunk his entire life savings into this project and is hoping to sell it to recoup his costs. We can only wish him good luck and ask one question: Isn't purchasing art for what we can only assume costs an entire briefcase full of Franklins just as much of a "status symbol" as big, ungainly luxury SUVs? Video of the art making process after the jump.
With Hummer's future seemingly in the hands of China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery Co. Ltd, questions naturally turn to the automaker's barren product cupboard. How will Tengzhong replace Hummer's current crop of SUVs? With the news that the Chinese automaker would like to focus on more environmentally friendly models, a Romanian designer by the name of Andrus Ciprian envisions something along the lines of the compact HB concept you see above.

A Hummer wouldn't be a Hummer without significant off-road capability, and Ciprian suggests that the HB would retain a body-on-frame design in lieu of a lighter unibody, though hewn from aluminum and carbon fiber instead of steel. Under the comely concept's hood sits a biofuel-capable V6 engine. But those aren't the most interesting bits of the concept, the stance and general proportions of which would look perfect on the front of a Traxxas RTR box.

Ciprian included two separate windshield designs, one of which sees the screen sectioned into thirds with a slew of cameras relaying additional information to the pilot. We'd go with the more production-likely single-piece glass. In any case, see the stunning high-res renderings in our gallery below and let us know what you think.
What it appears to show is a sedan with the stacked headlights, chrome mesh grille, and edgy body lines that define all Cadillac vehicles from the CTS to the SRX. Our money says the concept will be an almost-ready version of the forthcoming XTS sedan, but we’ll have to wait until January to know for sure.

This year marks a century of existence for automaker Bugatti, and among the company’s celebrations include this trio of limited-edition Veyrons. The three cars celebrate the company’s sales success in Middle Eastern markets and were unveiled today at the Dubai Motor Show. Just five copies of each car will be built, and they’re exclusively for buyers in the Middle East.

The Veyron Nocturne (seen above) wears a glossy black roof and front fenders, while the hood, rear fenders, and lower skirts are finished in shiny aluminum. We’re guessing the name, which means “nocturnal,” is echoing the difference between day and night with the two-tone scheme. The polished wheels are unique to the Nocturne. The color scheme continues inside with a black magnesium-coated dashboard and a galvanized-platinum center console, making it shiny enough to use as a mirror. The price tag is $2.4 million.

Next up is the equally shiny Veyron Sang d’Argent, pictured above. The name roughly translates to “silver blood,” which seems appropriate given that the body wears a mix of polished-aluminum and silver-painted panels. The Veyron Grand Sport donated its wheels to the cause, while a special “Havanna” treatment fills the inside. This one’s a comparative steal at “just” $2.1 million.

Our favorite of the trio has to be this, the Soleil de Nuit. Based on the targa-top Veyron Grand Sport, the luscious burnt orange leather is easily spotted through the roof opening. The body’s painted in a deep metallic blue with polished aluminum ringing the bottom of the car. The so-called Sang Noir (“black blood”) wheels also sport matching blue paint. Bugatti says the car embodies the “Art, Forme, Technique” mantra that underlies all Bugatti design. This model can be yours for $2.25 million.
